Trips Community is mostly focused in Italy.
You have to start from somewhere and so I started from home.
Italy is great tourist destination and I knew I had a shot in convincing at least some people that it was worth looking into this mysterious thing.
I succeeded and now we are a solid Community with a reasonable reach.
A recent episode is telling:
Booking.com introduced a +1,3% fee on payments and somebody we don’t know wrote in Facebook “I sincerely hope that Trips is the solution, Booking.com is really bad (even if at the moment they help me earn a living)”.
There you are: we represent Hope now.
Anyway, this bragging was to justify the several months with no articles in : we’ve been busy in Italy (and on the ) and released mostly Youtube videos in English.
TL;DR: there are nice apartments to book on the , in Italy, and only tech people like you can do it.
I turn to you because you are crypto-educated and there’s few people like you.
That is, you’ve already learned all the necessary steps to be able to transact on the .
If you are like me, you have also forgotten how many these steps are, and you go around saying “after all it’s not very difficult”.
This is false, and we know it.
When Itry to explain all the process it I realize that in fact it is very difficult for most people.
This video, which I showed in practically during all my presentations is, to date, the best in reminding us how many absurd things we take for granted:
Nonetheless, we insist on explaining, for in our opinion Knowledge is the ultimate goal.
But it takes time for most people to learn the basics and in the meantime we have fifty selected bookable accommodations just waiting for you.
Because you are ready.
THE THINGS THAT WE DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO YOU
We don’t have to explain what a Wallet, a private key or a public key are.
We don’t have to make sure you don’t lose your Pin, password, 12 or 24 seed words.
You already know that there is no toll-free number to request access to the lost account.
You have been there, you got burned, you probably lost some in some or exchange.
These are battle wounds and now you are stronger and more attentive.
As a result if you see something like this instead of a classic profile, you don’t panic:
You immediately realise that it is a profile linked to an ETH address (and maybe even guessed that it is based on and therefore we are in the realm of total decentralization).
But then, since you are really savvy, you also understand that in this case it is not a true peer to peer because we manage the Host’s accounts at least until they learn how to use the Dapp or we simplify the Dapp.
YOU UNDERSTAND THIS GOES BEYOND JUST BOOKINGS
Another great thing about you: you do not panic for the lack the central authority.
If you don’t see the suites and ties transmitting authority and security you are OK.
That same security we strive for like oxygen because in the end it makes us feel comfortable when someone else is dealing with the important things.
Because you have understood that those who are at the top of any pyramid are rarely the best , but more often just the best in getting at the top to the pyramid.
You have guessed, or perhaps even understood and internalized that it’s time to try something new: a flat architecture.
Not so much because it’s definitely better (we honestly don’t know and many mistakes will be done before something functional arises), but because it is a possible path and we have the obligation to explore it.
We have been relying on the centralised architecture for millennia and we have seen its the strengths and limits.
I have digressed … I know, but the social significance of what we’re doing in the open is the main drive and it’s worth digressing.
But back to you and your endless merits:
YOU ARE NOT SCARED OF THE DAI
You know very well what the volatility is and therefore if you pay € 300 in ETH today for a reservation and by the time you check-in those € 300 have become € 1000, you don’t expect to cash in the difference.
And if the Host only accepts DAI to limit the volatility risk of the ETH and you see this, you are OK with it:
YOU UNDERSTAND “BETA”
If we tell you the Dapp is in BETA and therefore a lot of basic functions are missing, you accept it for a fact.
We won’t need to get into weird conversations.
They are funny only the first time:
- “Yes but you I can’t search by dates in the Dapp”.
- “Exactly, we are in BETA”.
- “Ok, but without searching by dates, how do I do?”.
- “For now you have to check the dates in Airbnb”.
- “Ok, but why didn’t you put the calendars?”.
- “The calendars are there but no Host will update them every day, it does not bring reservations yet”.
- “Ok but then integrate them with some synchronizing software!”
- “Yes of course, but now there are other priorities”.
- “No no, dates are the first thing”.
- “The first?”.
- “And how is it that prices are not updated?”.
- “Same reason: who would update prices every day if it still doesn’t bring reservations? It’s like cleaning the windows of a house under construction every day”.
- “Ok but then integrate them. Prices are the first thing. Without prices how can I book?”.
- “You see them on Airbnb, then from those you know there is a discount. You spend less than on Airbnb. You don’t have to do calculations, you get a clear offer”.
- “Ok, but it’s really inconvenient”.
- “Yes, it is inconvenient. It is BETA, it takes time. It is like a house being built, there’s a roof and you get repair from the rain, not organize a wedding”.
- “But then why did you launch?”.
- “We need feedback. With some effort you can already book 100% peer to peer, give us feedback and even save money”.
- “Peer to peer? And wait, what’s is ETH? ”.
NOT SO HARD FOR YOU
At you can read how to book in the Dapp at this stage.
In short: see what’s available, send a messages, get an offer and pay via the Smart Contract.
That’s all.
HERE’S SOME LISTINGS
Check them out. Great selected places with huge discounts courtesy of generous Hosts who want to see Trips succeed.
