A few years ago, I read a regarding the future of our world as a result of bitcoin’s dominance, written from the perspective of a time traveler who sought to warn us of the pitfalls of pursuing bitcoin as a currency.
The traveler’s story, while admittedly plausible, was praised for its creativity and inevitably dismissed as the thought of bitcoin reaching $10,000 at that point in time was a joke.
As bitcoin rapidly approached (and surpassed) $10,000 in December 2017, I was reminded once again of the traveler’s story and took note of the timeline and accuracy, as well as how well everything was slowly lining up. The bleak outlook painted by the traveler was slowly coming true, one bit at a time.
Overall, I still wasn’t necessarily concerned until I regarding a cryptocurrency investor who was robbed of all his crypto at gunpoint.
Up until that moment, I had always considered the fact that crypto investors were their own banks as a core benefit of cryptocurrency. After reading that article, I saw that benefit as a liability.
It is of course true that any level of wealth and fame can make anyone a target, the nature of crypto however, and the lack of security around our crypto finances, presents a unique opportunity for criminals. We have very few layers of protection and our entire fortune rests solely in our hands.
A slow evolution of an idea began from that point moving forward which I believed would need to become a reality sooner rather than later.
I need to be anonymous.
It has taken a few months, however, I have slowly removed any and all references to cryptocurrency from my “real life”. The timing of this is ironic of course as the current bear market has me looking like I’m running away from crypto with my tail between my legs, but the necessity of my decision it has me undeterred.
To that end, I have created the pseudonym William Martellus with the hope of continuing to contribute to the community without the need to censor myself or hold back advice and guidance.
My point in writing this, and letting you know, is so that it is clear from day one that William Martellus does not technically exist, and yet in a sense, he is me. It is not my intent to deceive anyone, however, it is my intent to move forward anonymously and this is how I will begin.
I recognize that you have no reason to follow me, however, perhaps we can find some common ground and can learn a thing or two from each other moving forward.
Thank you for reading.
William Martellus.
