This listing is for a handmade vintage coin necklace made from a 1966 UK Great Britain 2 shilling coin. This coin boasts a beautiful iridescent silver shine.
The coin pictured is the actual coin you will receive. It’s made of polished nickel and weighs 10 grams. It measures 30 mm (1.2 in) in diameter. This necklace comes with a 50 cm (20 in) copper ball chain ( "d" option in the menu) and silver lobster clasp, but if you have other preferences please use the scroll menu to "choose chain" and "length" accordingly.

The Tudor rose, sometimes called the Union rose, is the traditional floral heraldic emblem of England and takes its name and origins from the Tudor dynasty. When Henry VII took the crown of England from Richard III in battle (1485), he brought the end of the retrospectively-dubbed 'Wars of the Roses' between the House of Lancaster (one monarch of which had sometimes used the badge of a red or gold rose) and the House of York (which had lately used a white-rose badge). Henry's father was Edmund Tudor from the House of Richmond (maternally), and his mother was Margaret Beaufort from the House of Lancaster; in January 1486 he married Elizabeth of York to bring all factions together. (In battle, Richard III fought under the banner of the boar, and Henry under the banner of the dragon of his native Wales.) The white rose versus red rose juxtaposition was Henry's invention.
There might also be a relation to alchemy, as roses are important symbols in alchemy. The white rose signifies the albedo – the stage just after the nigredo of death and dissolution, during which the fruit of the union of male and female materials (mercury and sulfur) had been burnt to calcination in the alchemist's oven; in the albedo the remains are washed, and the washing operation is repeated many times. Once the material is white, it is ready to be reborn again. But it is not yet reborn – in order for that to happen, the life force of rubedo, symbolised by the red rose, must be infused in the material. This corresponds to a stage of passion in human philosophy and emotion – mystical union with the Divine (at the stage of rubedo the higher union of Male and Female principle are united and meet the Anima Mundi, the World Soul – the soul of the Divine), which many see as true rebirth, especially in the Western mystical tradition.
This reminds me of an Arab legend about the white and red rose, which I found recently:
"Originally Roses where white. One night the Nightingale met a white Rose and fell in Love. His love was so intense that he was inspired to song (for before that nightingales only croaked and chirped). Eventually his love was such that he pressed himself to the flower and the thorns pierced his heart and colored the Rose forever red."
