Opera and HTC combine security with convenience for crypto users

Easily connect your opera crypto wallet to the Zion Vault.

In February 2019 the we announced our partnership with Opera to streamline the user experience for users of decentralized networks. Opera integrated a wallet application into their browser to enable easy access to decentralized applications (dapps) and the ability to manage your digital assets directly within the browser.

The Zion Vault of the HTC EXODUS can be connected to the Opera browser directly on the phone as well as on your desktop device! Hence, Opera is the first organization taking advantage of the Zion Key Management API and the Zion Vault SDK.

What is a key management API?

The API is an information gateway handling the communication between the Zion Vault and third parties utilizing the Zion functions. It ensures that secret information like your private key won’t leave the Zion Vault, while enabling information exchange between these applications. This allows dapps to store keys in a trusted environment with additional protection provided by the Zion Trusted UI. For more information, visit our Github.

Hence, Opera users can enjoy the added security to their crypto assets on the EXODUS 1 and interact, login to services and transact with decentralized services directly, using their private keys held securely on their device.

Onwards to a new industry standard

Charles Hamel, Project Lead, Opera Crypto says “We are at the dawn of a new generation of the Web, one where new decentralized services will challenge the status quo. HTC and Opera have both made the bold decision to be the first to step up and enable this transformation. We are very proud to partner with EXODUS and together define a new standard for usability and security of crypto.”

The collaboration between EXODUS and Opera is setting an industry standard on how user friendly blockchain experiences can be executed in a secure environment. This allows more people to securely explore the benefits of blockchain technology and decentralized apps and services.

A prominent example of using Opera with the Zion wallet includes being able to make direct micro-payments to content websites, which has the potential to reshape the face of journalism and create a new content centered revenue stream for publishers. This decreases the influence of controlling tech giants and click chasing advertising models.

How to connect your Zion Vault to the Opera browser (mobile)

  1. Open the Opera browser on your HTC EXODUS.
  2. Click on the Opera logo on the lower right corner.
  3. Select Crypto wallet.
  4. Click OPEN ZION VAULT.
  5. Read and confirm Sign with Zion.
  6. Authorize the connection by inserting your passcode/password.

You can find detailed information in the help section of Opera. After the connection, Opera displays your assets within the Opera wallet as well. It will forward you to the Zion Vault whenever you want to make a transaction.

You can find the Opera dapp store by clicking on the blue D within your Opera crypto wallet. All collectibles (NFTs), which are supported by the Zion Vault (namely CryptoKitties, Etheremon, Decentraland, MyCryptoHeroes and Axie Infinity) will be displayed directly in Zion.

You can use your desktop device and explore the WEB3 while storing your private keys in your Zion Vault. Opera will automatically forward the transaction to your HTC EXODUS, which you can use to sign the transaction.
