Released in January 2014, Nyancoin (Symbol: NYAN) is a digital currency based on Nyan Cat with the words ‘It is my great pleasure to announce to you all that we have partnered with the creators of Nyancat to create the first officially licensed cryptocurrency in history!’. Nevertheless, the original developers mysteriously disappeared several months later and no one has known the reason or explanation. They are rumored to turn into Doges or something. The original Nyancoin website and other services stopped working shortly after that – but all was not lost because some kept the software running and continued to mine the coin.
