The next newsrewired digital journalism conference will take place on 6 March at Reuters in Canary Wharf, London. This will be our 24th conference, and as usual, we are aiming to provide delegates with practical skills and ideas they can take home and explore in their own organisations. The day will feature a mix of workshops, talks and panel discussions about the latest tools, trends and techniques in digital journalism. Here’s what's on the agenda so far: Future of digital innovation: personalised content, voice, and dynamic paywalls – Rouven Leuener is group head of digital product at Neue Zürcher Zeitung, one of the oldest German-language newspapers. He took the lead on digital innovation five years ago and, during this time, he launched a number of digital products that attracted new online subscribers and turned the newspaper around. Among NZZ’s latest innovations is a text-to-speech audio player feature that converts written articles into audio. The publisher is now looking at new ways to monetise this audio content and grow its subscribers base. Local news: Breaking out of the London bubble – This panel will look at significant local journalism projects carried out by large news organisations and will discuss why listening to regional audiences is vital for their success. Financing journalism and in the digital age – From micropayment and crowdfunding to innovative membership models and crypto-currencies, this panel will look at successful strategies to finance online journalism. Alexa, how can we monetise content on smart speakers? – Despite the rise in sales of voice controlled devices, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home, difficulty to monetise content holds publishers back from innovating on voice platforms. This panel will explore projects by early adopters and look at the benefits of investing in smart speaker-friendly content. Blockchain tech has the power to fight censorship — but it could help misinformation stay forever – For many, bitcoin [BTC] is still a just buzzword. However, this technology can help revolutionise how news content is stored and distributed. This panel will shed the light on what bitcoin [BTC] actually is, as well as its benefits and pitfalls for publishers. Who is investing in solutions journalism? – People are switching off from the news cycle gauged by negativity. This session will explore how solutions journalism can re-engage audiences— and help solve newsrooms’ cashflow problems in the process. Read more about the agenda here. Delegates can also register for newsrewired+, which will give them access to the conference on 5 March and one of three hands-on workshops the following day.  They represent a 10 per cent discount compared to booking tickets for both days separately.
