This image was created from several parts. The head, claw, tail and planet are seperate objects. The head and claws were created entirely within Zbrush. The tail began life as a loft object in Max. In fact it is the very same prop I used as the tail in my previous attempt to render this concept in 3D. The planet also came from max. I simply spherized a subdivided cube so that I would have a more dependable and versatile sphere prop than Zbrush’s sphere primitive.
The claw is the same base object on either side but the fingers are actually posed differently from one side to another. This is possible because it is a zsphere model.
The background and various effects were added in photoshop.
