Karatgold coin (kbc): how gold can bring stability to your cryptocurrency portfolio

If you were to make a list of assets that a techie was likely to buy, gold would likely not make the top 10. And while gold will always have its fans, and no one who owns gold is sorry they have it, gold just isn’t a very modern asset, at least in the digital age. Heavy and cumbersome, gold must be carefully stored and transported. Once you have gold, it takes time to sell it, and it’s notoriously difficult to spend directly. Many have called bitcoin “digital gold”, and for many this was the last they ever expected to consider gold as a practical investment in the 21st century.

And then KaratGold Coin came along. KaratGold Coin comes courtesy of Karatbars International, a company that sells. Karatbars has been selling gold in many different forms since 2011. The company is aiming to transfer gold into a practical form of money once again, even going so far as to set tiny gold bars (0.1 grams) into paper notes, which can then be stored in a wallet and used for daily exchange.

No matter how convenient a physical gold product is, however, it still can’t be spent online. This seemed like an insurmountable restriction for gold as money. In the 21st century, gold seemed like something to sew into a mattress, not use as cash. But Karatbars found a way to digitize gold that has yet to be equalled in the crypto space.

KaratGold Coin has a set value relationship with CashGold, physical bills for which they can be exchanged. The coin’s circulating supply is also backed by CashGold reserves. With CashGold Karatbars presents a gold-as-money approach, with tiny bars of gold built into physical bills (just like Dollars or Euros). As from this summer investors can exchange KBC tokens directly to pure gold, making it the first digital currency that is actually convertible to a truly valuable asset. This exchange will be made possible as part of a global Karatbars International’s promotion campaign, the Gold Independence Days, so that users can easily receive real gold in the form of CashGold at Karatbars’ own ATMs.

“We are working incredibly hard to ensure that starting from the Gold Independence Day on July 4th, 2019, a full-featured global gold circulation is established and from this moment on the phrase “I will pay in KBC” means “I will pay with gold”,” says Dr. Harald Seiz, founder of Karatbars International.

This isn’t where the new thinking stops. That system alone wouldn’t make gold any more useful for spending online. That’s why KaratGold Coin introduced its K-Merchant system. This is a application that lets users buy and sell KaratGold Coin for Ethereum, bitcoin, and several fiat currencies. Integreated into WooCommerce and other e-commerce applications, users can then spend KBC through thousands of retailers around the internet. All of these features will find regular use on the IMpulse K1 Phone, a smartphone with an Ethereum blockchain operating system, that encrypts and broadcasts calls and text messages by a newly created Voice Over Blockchain Protocol (VOBP). All functions will be paid in KBC and thus creating an additional valuable utility for the coin..

KaratGold Coin is for sure a coin that every cryptocurrency investor should consider in the coming days and months.

The road to mainstream adoption of blockchain technologies is a long one. Although the user experience of wallets has greatly improved since the dark days of command-line only interfaces, decentralized applications continue to struggle with onboarding non-technical users.

Jarrad Hope and Carl Bennetts, join us to discuss Status, a mobile Ethereum client which aims to turn the standard wallet experience on its head. At its core, Status is a mobile instant messenger client that leverages the Whisper protocol for secure peer-to-peer communication. Through its familiar messaging interface and elegant design, users can chat and send Ether directly in the app. As the first implementation of Ethereum’s Light Client Protocol, users may also use decentralized applications such as uPort, Gnosis and Aragon on their mobile phones. Built as an open source project, Status’ developer platform also allows developers to easily port their Dapps to the app.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Jarrad and Carl’s background and journey to the Ethereum space
  • Status’ vision for a friendly, mobile Dapp client
  • Status’ technical architecture
  • How Status leverages Ethereum’s Light Client and Whisper protocols
  • The Status user experience and feature set
  • Jarrad and Carl’s views on privacy and how Status fulfils their goal of privacy by default
  • The long term vision for a Status Network
  • The project’s roadmap and business model

AML: US Rules Would Force Declaration Of Crypto At Borders

An update to US anti-money laundering (AML) legislation currently going through Congress would oblige travelers to declare digital currency at the border.

AML Rules Target $10k+ Crypto Holdings

S. 1241, a new bill sponsored by Senator Chuck Grassley, proposes adding the terms ‘digital currency’ and ‘prepaid access devices’ to existing list of financial items subject so such AML procedures.

It would also include reference to “any digital exchanger or tumbler of digital currency.”

Ostensibly designed to prevent trafficking of funds over $10,000 in value, the resulting powers given to border authorities could be nonetheless considerably more sweeping than at present.

United States Congress

While it is unclear how those arriving in the US would be screened for digital currency holdings, the Bill makes provision for a report to be commissioned ironing out the finer points.

The text states:

Not later than 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, shall submit to Congress a report—

(1) detailing a strategy to interdict and detect prepaid access devices, digital currencies, or other similar instruments, at border crossings and other ports of entry for the United States; and

(2) that includes an assessment of infrastructure needed to carry out the strategy detailed in paragraph […]

Coin Center ‘Reaching Out’ For Debate

The bitcoin community is already reacting with caution to the legislation as it stands, with multiple questions being raised as to how lawmakers could enforce it in practice.

“We’re reaching out to the relevant offices,” Coin Center CEO Jerry Brito said in a Twitter response.

EU Focuses On Dark Web, ID Linking

The move is reminiscent of similar plans across the pond in the European Union regarding declaration of digital currency funds, this time at the point of spend.

While border controls are not currently on the table, legislators are keen to enforce similar AML controls on anyone holding any form of virtual funds.

Formally revealed in March, users could soon face obligatory linking of their personal identity to their wallet.

AML could force linking users' ID to their digital wallets

More recently, a joint “consortium” by the European Commission, INTERPOL and others will research ways in which illicit use of the dark web can be curbed. Participants promise that:

“The consortium will analyze legal and ethical requirements and define guidelines for storing and processing data, information, and knowledge involved in criminal investigations without compromising citizen privacy,” participants promise.
