John delaney: the u. S. Must create a dedicated cybersecurity unit

John Delaney, a United States politician and business mogul looking to contest for the 2020 U.S. presidential seat, has buttressed the country’s need for a centralized and dedicated “Department of Cybersecurity,” as the nation remains a target to all kinds of cyber threats, according to a blog post on April 16, 2019.

Delaney to Create Cybersecurity Department

According to a blog post by Team Delaney, the Presidential hopeful is looking to establish a Department of Cybersecurity, whose primary objective will be to address all forms of cybersecurity threats plaguing the nation.

Delaney has opined that since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, it has also become crucial for the country to create a dedicated cybersecurity department that would be solely responsible for fixing all cybersecurity issues.

The former United States Representative for Maryland’s 6th congressional district has stated categorically that the government must keep pace with the fast-evolving world of technology.

According to Delaney, bad actors are getting more and more sophisticated every day, formulating new ways of breaking into even the most dogged security platforms.

“Securing our cybersecurity systems is both a national security priority and an economic one as well. In light of the numerous recent and continued cyber attacks on our nation, we need to establish a cabinet-level agency to focus on protecting our cyberspace, similar to how we responded to September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by establishing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to protect the homeland,” said Delaney.

Improving Focus and Accountability

Delaney also argues that the creation of a centralized cybersecurity agency will foster accountability and reestablish the nation’s priorities in the modern era. At current, multiple government agencies are responsible for such threats.

These agencies include the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) within the DHS, U.S. Cyber Command and the FBI.

However, Delaney firmly believes that since cybersecurity is not the primary focus of these agencies. Thus, the task of safeguarding the nation’s cyberspace may not be properly executed.

Against that backdrop, it is pertinent to create a central agency that would be led by a cabinet-level secretary, to focus solely on coordinating and implementing a nation-wide cybersecurity strategy.

In related news, on April 11, 2019, BTCManager informed that the U.S. Department of Energy is actively exploring the use of blockchain technology in protecting the country’s electric grids from cyber attacks.
