Another day in crypto sees bitcoin priced at just over (on Blockmodo), looking for a break out past $6,800. More news of ICO scams, regulatory developments, and mainstream interest from Visa. Let’s catch up on today’s action!
The Cautionary Tale Of Another Failed ICO
The past two years have been filled with failures and fraud. Add the Hamster ICO (Hmstr.io) to that list.
Hamster was to be a decentralized marketplace that did not need third parties. Transactions would be secure on the blockchain, and buyers/sellers would be able to directly interact.
However, the operation now appears to have disappeared, along with about $4.3 million USD of investor funds stolen.
bitcoin Bulls Must Push Price Past $6.8k To Win Control
Over the past few weeks, bitcoin has seen shockingly stable price action for the most part. For a volatile asset, spectators wonder when a break out for bitcoin will occur.
According to technical analysis (TA) charting, bitcoin’s price must surge past a level of $6.8k to signal a new bullish (positive) price movement.
A key price level possibly holding up bitcoin’s price is the 21-day exponential moving average (EMA) at a price of about $6,100. (This price is based on the EMA indicator that accounts for past price action). If bitcoin breaks through $6,100, it could indicate further movement downward.
EU Securities Group Advises Regulating Crypto Assets Under Existing Rules
Regulation is possibly the biggest question mark for crypto in 2018 so far. One group, the Securities and Markets Stakeholders Group (SMSG), made statements on October 19 that crypto should be regulated in a similar fashion as current capital markets. The SMSG explained that crypto assets are many times seen as investments.
However, the SMSG may not necessarily have the direct ability to affect regulation, as they are only advisors for the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
Additionally, with all the (SEC) confusion this year, it’s obvious that the world needs more clarity on regulatory applications for crypto.
Russia: New Version Of Crypto Bill Will Let Privately Held Firms ‘Digitize’ Shares
A new bill from Russia now allows private businesses to “digitize” their shares through blockchain technology, as reported by CoinTelegraph.
This will allow private companies (companies without public stock) to “create and sell so-called ‘digital financial assets (DFA)’ that act as digitized equity for the company” explains CoinTelegraph. Although once a private company creates and issues a DFA, they cannot decide to become a public company later.
This is big news. It lowers the barrier to entry for private businesses that want to disperse equity of their company.
