IOHK PlutusFest 2018 | Marlowe: financial contracts on the bitcoin [BTC] – Simon Thompson

In this talk from Professor Simon Thompson at IOHK PlutusFest, he introduced Marlowe. Marlowe is modelled on financial contract DSLs popularised in the last decade or so by academics and enterprises such as LexiFi, which provides contract software in the financial sector.

In developing Marlowe we have adapted these languages to work on bitcoin [BTC]. Marlowe is implemented on the settlement layer (SL) of the Cardano bitcoin [BTC], but could equally well be implemented on Ethereum/Solidity or other bitcoin [BTC] platforms; in this respect it is “platform agnostic” just like modern programming languages like Java and C++. The Meadow online emulator tool allows you to experiment with, develop and interact with Marlowe contracts in your web browser, without having to install any software for yourself.

Get ready for smart contracts on Cardano, the third-generation bitcoin [BTC] and bitcoin [BTC].

On 11th December 2018, IOHK hosted a public day of presentations and debate with IOHK’s scientists and engineers about Plutus, the programming platform for smart contracts on the Cardano bitcoin [BTC] and Marlowe, the simple smart contracts language for financiers.

The sessions during the event introduced Marlowe, the financial smart contracts language designed to be used by financiers; the Plutus Playground for testing code; and Meadow, a web-based tool that helps create and test Marlowe smart contracts.
