Use Cent Without Any Web3 Extension or Wallet

We’ve been hard at work creating the next-generation income network, and a big part of that has been leading the charge in crypto user interfaces. Today we’re announcing a major upgrade to the Cent ecosystem that puts us squarely on the cutting edge of decentralized UX.

Up until now, you’ve always needed to use something like Metamask, or Trust Wallet, or some other Web3 Wallet extension or browser in order to access Cent. Personally, I’ve always hated the fact that this has been necessary. Normal people don’t download extensions to use websites. Normal people go to websites, login, and use them. Having to download some separate thing to use a thing makes the whole thing feel way too esoteric and complicated.

So, last night, in the culmination of months of work, we launched our integration with the awesome team from Fortmatic. Anyone can now use Cent from any browser, without needing a Chrome extension, or a dApp browser. It’s hard to express how huge this is for Cent’s mainstream adoption.

Goodbye extensions, hello future.

Internally, we’ve had a process going we called “Kill The Fox” (referring to the Metamask logo). We’ve wanted to make Metamask and things like it unnecessary, but for a long time there were no solid technical solutions to getting around the need for them. But humans are amazing and now it’s possible thanks to the team at Fortmatic. Just login with your mobile number and email, and you’re good to go. Use Cent from mobile Safari, your Android phone, your 2005 Palm Treo, or whatever.

Using the new Cent is super simple. When you access it from a new device for the first time, you’ll receive an SMS verification message in order to login and verify your Fortmatic account. Every subsequent Fortmatic login on that device will be a 6-digit pin (with no SMS). Logged in, users will be asked to click a simple button that verifies their account when they want to seed, bounty or do anything with their money. It’s one click — super easy, super scalable, super accessible to normal people. We’re so excited.

Thank you to the entire Fortmatic team for being so great to work with, looking forward to continuing to collab with you all.
