The discussion panel touched on many topics: we debated the social impacts of each company’s unique product, crypto and financial industry inclusion, and what we think the next killer application of crypto will be.
One of the most compelling themes was building crypto infrastructure so that transactions can be fast, cheap and available to everyone. Mobile payments will be key to this future infrastructure.
An example was floated, which described a small shop in a developing country able to operate using nothing but a smartphone, accepting payment with minimal fees, creating business opportunities, and promoting development of rural communities which lack regular access to banking. With Exchange Union’s technology providing the backbone of trading currency pairs between exchanges, it would enable the business to be able to accept any cryptocurrency, simply trading it for their preferred crypto or fiat currency.
For many countries in Africa and Asia, the adoption rates of personal computers within homes have remained low, entirely skipping the home computer generation seen in Western countries, and are instead moving directly towards the smart phone market, leaving the mobile payment sector ripe for a boom.
Participants of the Q&A were also keen to talk about the tumultuous past year of trading, citing the market valuation rocketing skywards and then back down to earth. The guests responded that caution needs to be taken when investing in the crypto markets due to the technology being in its infancy.
However, crypto technology is here to stay and is guaranteed to disrupt the core financial infrastructure of the world. We are working to ensure that Exchange Union will play a substantial role in envisioning and building the future of commerce we all want to see.
