Blockchain Association of Canada Merges with Chamber of Digital Commerce

The Blockchain Association of Canada announced on February 5, 2019, that they have merged with the Chamber of Digital Commerce Canada.

Stronger Together

Across the world various blockchain advocacy entities such as Blockchain for Europe have been formed to bring some order to the industry and encourage collaboration. Most recently, The Blockchain Association of Canada has undergone a merger and is now a part of the Canadian Chamber of Digital Commerce.

The announcement of the merger was made on February 5, 2019, via a press release on their website. The Blockchain Association of Canada was the largest Blockchain association in the country and Tanya Woods, the former Executive director and policy strategist of the BAC, will now act as the managing director of the Chamber of Digital Commerce Canada.

Speaking on Tanya’s expertise, Perianne Boring founder, and president of the Chamber of Digital Commerce said:

“Tanya brings more than a decade of strategic advocacy experience and is a trusted advisor to the blockchain community and the Canadian Government at the highest levels. She is a strong advocate for the Canadian blockchain community,”

The Chamber of Digital Commerce was first created in 2014 and is the world’s largest Blockchain trade association acting as home to over 200 companies that wish to explore blockchain such as Microsoft, Overstock and IBM.

Canada Calling

While many associations exist for the purpose of furthering blockchain adoption, too many of them defeat the purpose which is uniformity within the industry. By having the BAC merge with the Chamber of Digital Commerce, a larger and stronger body is created. Canada, on its part, has been quite accepting of blockchain and is currently looking into the use of cryptocurrency in political donations. The team behind the Chamber is Digital Commerce are looking at Canada becoming a blockchain hub in the end few years.

Don Tapscott, executive chairman of the Blockchain Research Institute and advisory board member of the Chamber of Digital Commerce said:

“Canada is well positioned to be a global leader in the burgeoning blockchain economy,”

He continues:

“It is critical for Canada to have a unified local community driving blockchain adoption and I am pleased to see the Chamber of Digital Commerce’s investment in the Canadian blockchain economy.”
