Bitcoin’s Lightning Network lands in Israel after Iranian passes on torch as a gesture of peace

The bitcoin Lightning Network crossed another national boundary after the Lightning Torch was received in Israel from Iran. The torch was sent by an Iranian to the bitcoin embassy in Israel, as a gesture of peace between the people of the two countries.

The news surfaced hours after the jubilation over the successful experimentation of the Lightning Torch in Iran had subsided.

Sam Abassi, founder of Bushido Labs, received the Lightning Network torch from Iranian Ziya Sadr. Abassi took the opportunity to demonstrate bitcoin’s transparency and cross-border neutrality in the face of significant censorship resistance.

After receiving the Lightning torch, Sam Abassi acted quickly to pass it on to the Tel Aviv-based bitcoin Embassy in Israel.

Abassi tweeted,

The bitcoin Embassy was quick to respond after receiving the Lightning Torch from Iran, responding with excitement and pride. The 229th recipient of the torch said,

“We received the #LNTrustChain torch!  The torch went from Iran to @samabbassi, an Iranian living abroad, and then to us in Tel Aviv! We’re very proud to be a part of this historic moment. Reply with your invoices and let’s get this torch on the move again!”

Before the Lighting Torch landed in Israel, Ziya Sadr, a Coinex executive, received it in Iran after complaints about the limitations of not being able to receive transactions. The situation caused a lot of traction in social media and Ziya gained community support after Peach Inc’s senior software engineer, Vijay Boyapati claimed it was due to political reasons.

Ziya finally received the Lightning Torch from a Welshman based out of the UK. The action received plaudits from all over the world as the bitcoin Lightning community welcomed the incredible feat.

Anthony Pompliano, Founder of Morgan Creek Digital and a proponent of bitcoin responded to the development stating,

The cross-boundary transfer between Iran and Israel is a monumental milestone towards not only the development of Lightning Network, but also bitcoin as a cryptocurrency. The episode reiterated that bitcoin is fundamentally uncensored and outside the control of a central authority.
