Bitcoin (BTC) Price Eyeing Last Line Of Defense: Buy Dips?

Bitcoin (btc) price eyeing last line of defense: buy dips?
  • There was a strong decline in bitcoin price below the $5,280 support level against the US Dollar.
  • The price even spiked below the $5,000 support level and it is currently consolidating above $5,100.
  • There is a major bullish trend line in place with support at $5,080 on the 4-hours chart of the BTC/USD pair (data feed from Kraken).
  • The pair could bounce back as long as there is no weekly close below the $5,000 support level.

Bitcoin price started consolidating losses after a strong decline against the US Dollar. BTC is likely to recover above $5,200 and $5,280 in the near term unless the $5,000 gives way.

bitcoin Price Weekly Analysis (BTC)

This past week, there was a significant rejection in bitcoin price near the $5,660 level against the US Dollar. The BTC/USD pair started a strong downward move below $5,400 after tether’s drama. The price tumbled below the key $5,280 and $5,200 support levels. There was even a spike below $5,000, plus a close below the 100 simple moving average (4-hours). A swing low was formed near the $4,910 level and recently the price recovered above $5,000 and $5,050.

At the moment, the price is testing the 50% Fib retracement level of the last drop from the $5,510 swing high to $4,910 swing low. However, the $5,220 area and the 100 simple moving average (4-hours) are acting as hurdles. Above $5,220, there is a major resistance near $5,280 and a connecting bearish trend line. The 61.8% Fib retracement level of the last drop from the $5,510 swing high to $4,910 swing low is also near the $5,280 level. A successful close above the $5,280 level might trigger a decent recovery in the near term.

On the downside, there is a major bullish trend line in place with support at $5,080 on the 4-hours chart of the BTC/USD pair. The trend line support near $5,080 is very important, below which the price could test $5,000. If there is a daily close below $5,000, the price is likely to move further into a bearish zone. In the mentioned case, the price will most likely test $4,800 or $4,750.

Looking at the chart, bitcoin price faced a strong selling interest below $5,400. However, it managed to stay above the $5,000 support. Therefore, there are chances of a recovery above the $5,280 resistance levels. If there is a close above $5,280, there are chances of move towards $5,400 or even $5,500.

Technical indicators

How the Blockchain Could Become an Image Dataset Repository for AR/VR

How the Blockchain Could Become an Image Repository for AR/VR

Lampix, an augmented reality (AR) startup, is building the world’s first blockchain-based “image mining” network. The company has embarked on the ambitious mission of developing one of the largest image databases.

The database, which will be available for all to use, intends to be the backbone of AR and machine-learning training. It seeks to suppress startups and developers’ dependency on proprietary image datasets owned by tech giants.

“Existing databases are controlled by the company who built them: Google, for example, has made such a database. However, there are two problems with this approach: Google controls this database and can, at any moment, forbid their competitors from using it, remove access to it, etc. Second, this database includes only the data Google thinks is needed,” George Popescu, CEO and co-founder of Lampix, told bitcoin Magazine.

Instead, Lampix is electing to offer a database where “no single company, and not Lampix neither, will control who has access to the data, and what data should go in the database.”

“No centralized control. This is why we are working on the blockchain,” he said.

Leveraging blockchain technology, Lampix is building a network that rewards users with Lampix tokens, called PIX, to take pictures, describe them and assemble open-source, curated image datasets. Miners can use any device that has a camera with the sufficient resolution, including the company’s Lampix device, to submit datasets.

Datasets submitted will consist of an image and description. To make sure the image and description match, voters will either upvote or downvote a dataset and will be compensated with PIX tokens if their vote aligns with the consensus.

Third-party developers will be able to access these datasets to train their own computer vision applications by paying a small fee using PIX.

Lampix is planning to include a hash of each picture on the blockchain once it is approved and added to the database. This will increase security and address two main concerns: ensuring that a picture hasn’t been tampered with and ensuring that a user is using a full dataset, meaning that no picture has been removed or added.

“Developers will be able to tap into this database for their own product, such as Google Glass, Holo Lens or our Lampix product and create applications,” he said. “This is exciting, as for any application, a lot of data is necessary to make it accurate and work properly.”

Lampix plans to create a total of 1.1 billion PIX tokens. It will sell 50 percent of its tokens in a crowd sale over a period of three days. At launch, one PIX will cost $0.12. The company aims to raise roughly $50 million.

Popescu said the team is currently working with exchanges to list the PIX tokens in as many platforms as possible. “We expect it will be listed on Gatecoin, Bittrex, Kraken, Yunbi and a few more quickly,” he said.

New York-based Lampix builds and sells hardware devices and software that bring augmented reality to any flat surface, turning these surfaces into interactive displays. Using machine learning and computer vision, Lampix recognizes objects and projects context-relevant buttons and menus for different actions.

The company serves the likes of Bloomberg and PwC, as well as large retail chains. It claims it has a pipeline of about 200 famous companies inquiring about its Lampix device.

The database will allow Lampix to improve its technology and make it more accurate as computer vision and machine learning need a lot of images for training and testing.

“Our plan is simple: to map the world inside. Not the room, but actual objects on desks, tables, the surfaces themselves. Or even objects on the floor, on the kitchen counter, on your bathroom counter,” he said. “Google Maps changed the world, but they only have access outside. Imagine what will happen if we map the interior world.”

Much of the business world’s interest in blockchain has been centered on financial and banking services. Yet, possible applications of the technology go well beyond financial services.

“There is a lot of opportunity with user content which is not being explored very much. Many people focus on blockchain in finance,” Popescu said. “However, I think that sourcing user content, and using the technology to manage license and access, is a huge opportunity. AR/VR is just a small piece of this.”

Litecoin Price Tops $11 Amid SegWit Euphoria, Coinbase Support

With Litecoin’s price rallying and SegWit activation around the corner, bitcoin’s baby brother may soon be added to Coinbase.

Litecoin on Coinbase

Litecoin is the currently on the center stage of the blockchain sphere as the activation of SegWit becomes imminent and the price rallies to heights not seen since 2014. Now, it seems like Litecoin may become the second alternative cryptocurrency to be added to Coinbase, following Ethereum.

A recent Twitter conversation between Charlie Lee, founder of Litecoin and Brian Armstrong, co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, reveals that both want to see Litecoin added to Coinbase so that users can easily buy the altcoin with national currencies.

Although Litecoin trades on the GDAX exchange which belongs to Coinbase, adding it to the main Coinbase platform is a much more relevant step for LTC given that Coinbase is meant for the mainstream audience that is now entering the cryptocurrency scene, while GDAX is a platform for experienced traders. The addition of Litecoin to Coinbase will, as so, make it much easier for users to acquire it with fiat currencies.

Earlier this month, Coinbase received an approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer its customers the option of trading both Litecoin and Ether, making it the first NY-based exchange to offer both Litecoin and Ethereum markets.

SegWit may be coming for Litecoin

The argument used by Charlie Lee to get Litecoin into Coinbase is that Litecoin’s trading volume in GDAX was above $10M for the day, which was caused by the rally experienced yesterday in which Litecoin gained over 20% in value, going as high as $12.70.

CryptoCompare Index: Litecoin (LTC)

The reason for the surge in value is connected to the imminent activation of SegWit. Miner approval went as high as 65% yesterday (on the last 576 blocks at the time) and it’s currently sitting at 68%.

Once (if) the 75% mining approval threshold for SegWit activation is reached, miner approval will need to stay above this figure for two weeks (8064 blocks) in order to be activated. If SegWit is in fact activated in Litecoin, the following days/weeks could prove crucial for bitcoin’s future, as Litecoin leads the way as a scalability testbed for bitcoin. If the price increases tremendously, miners may be tempted to support SegWit with an increase in the mining revenue in mind.

SegWit support poll

Who is and Isn’t Signaling SegWit?

While some of the biggest Litecoin mining pools are signaling their support for SegWit, like F2Pool (34%), Batpool (11.6%), HappyChina (9.8%) and others, some refuse to change their position. Most notably, LTC1BTC which is the second biggest Litecoin mining pool in the market.

Litecoin mining pool market share

Jiang Zhuoer, founder of LTC1BTC said in an interview that LTC1BTC would not signal SegWit approval and he added that no other primary Litecoin pool would, which turned out to be incorrect.

Currently, only LTC1BTC (11.8%),BW (11%), Antpool (2.6%), LTC.top (2.4%) and Prohashing (1.4%) are not signaling for SegWit. It seems unlikely that Antpool and Prohashing will change to support SegWit, given their opposition to SegWit and support for bitcoin Unlimited.

Now, it all comes down to BW. Although it’s unclear what BW’s position on the matter is, we can expect an update to be released according to a recent tweet by the pool:

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

With BW’s 11% share of the Litecoin mining network, SegWit will most likely be activated.

Will BW move to activate SegWit, allowing Litecoin to be the first SegWit-enabled cryptocurrency? Would this help bitcoin’s case for SegWit? Let us know what you think in the comment section.
