Yesterday (April 1) Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, announced the restriction of the Ethereum coins emission to 120 million.
Let’s recall that Ethereum — the second most capitalized currency.
So, Buterin suggested the idea of improving the protocol EIP 960 according to which the number of Ethereum coins can not exceed 120 million, to be precise — 120.204.432 ETH
As noted by Buterin, this proposal is caused by the desire to “ensure sustainable economic development” of Ethereum.
In general, the community reacted positively to this proposal, only a few took it for an April Fool’s joke. And those few were right: the statement itself was a joke, but there is some truth (a meta-joke, as Buterin himself called it).
He wanted to know how the crypto community will react to this decision.
Vitalik does not deny that the proposal is very real and there are arguments in support of it, but at the same time does not consider this idea worthy of consideration. Moreover, a large part of his record was copied from Tron’s project web-site.
Buterin’s quote:
“If the community wants fixed supply and people believe that EIP 960 is a good way to achieve that, then it should adopt the proposal. If the community does not, then it should not. This is true regardless of whether or not the original intent was in jest.”
