Free knowledge. Free food. Free crypto. Come on down if you’re in town when the next one rolls around!

Blockchain Jam Session

Upon entry, a company rep herded us to the elevators running to the third floor.

Reaching level three involved another short wait for a different rep to gather the group then send us up one more flight.

The final destination was comfortable, accommodating, and came complete with free food and drink. Gracias for the tasty empanadas, XY!

Now, the registration process revealed the event’s speaker: Matthew Aaron. Also adding his two satoshis was Michael Nye. Wasn’t expecting to see a prominent crypto influencer in the building — pleasant surprise!

Warming Up

Matthew walked around the room to shake hands and introduce himself. Since I had hands and face full of food, we exchanged a friendly fist bump.

Before getting into the presentation, both crypto vets wanted to get a feel for the audience’s level of blockchain experience.

Roughly 20 of us ran the gamut from crypto newcomer to seasoned trader.

The main event began with an intro to the Bitcoin network. We discussed the underlying reasons of why blockchain tech and crypto networks are so critical to the world’s future.

We learned about the current hyperinflation crisis occurring in Venezuela — the avoidance of which is an ideal use case for digital assets.

Sure, cryptocurrencies are volatile. But most, especially those enjoying top-10 market cap status, won’t typically swing 50% in a day.

As governments and central banks repeatedly prove their inability to look after the financial wellbeing of their citizens and customers, the need for digital assets continues to accelerate.

But unless everyone has a way to interact with blockchains on a basic level, the tech is out of reach for most people — precisely why the host told the class about Trust Wallet.

Simplifying Crypto Awareness

One of the best ways to get tech-averse individuals to interact with crypto networks is a simple smartphone app.

The majority of residents in developed countries walk around with blockchain-enabled personal computers in their pockets. And, those same citizens are already very familiar with using them to perform financial transactions.

The functions of a crypto app aren’t much different than your banking app — and XY proved it to everyone in attendance.

Since XYO is an ERC20 token — in other words, built on top of the Ethereum network — it’s automatically compatible with the Trust Wallet app.

After learning how transactions on the ETH network require gas, everyone in the class individually downloaded Trust Wallet. We set our PINs and wrote down our private keys.

Once everyone had a basic understanding of how crypto networks operate, we put the idea in motion. One by one, Michael stopped by our desks and deposited 0.001 ETH into our Trust Wallet app.

And, after giving a brief overview of what XYO aims to accomplish, he also came by to airdrop 500 $XYO tokens per person — worth about $1 at the time.

Now, it’s important to note here that not everyone in the crowd knew what to do with their tokens. Trading on an exchange takes a different set of skills.

If you fall into the camp that’s a little intimidated by using crypto exchanges, fear not — the below article walks you through the process. It’s easy if you know how.

Learn to use gov’t-printed money to buy ETH, swap the ETH for XYO, trade the XYO for ETH, then convert the ETH back into greenbacks:

By physically adding digital assets to attendees’ phones, XY demonstrated just how easy it is to transact with crypto.

Unlike traditional banks — never open on Sundays or holidays — crypto-powered payments are under your control 24/7.
