
Finnish cryptocurrency group FIMKrypto and software company Koodilehto are partnering to develop a new initiative called Kryptoradio, which will be able to broadcast the bitcoin blockchain via a national television network, offering nearly the entire Finnish population “an alternative way to access the bitcoin network in cases where only a very low speed Internet connection is available.” FIMKrypto and Koodilehto will launch the pilot for the Kryptoradio program on September 1st for 2 months, while aiming to secure additional partnerships and raise enough funds to maintain the broadcast from there.
Cryptocurrency purchasing platform Expresscoin has raised its first investment from digital currency retail outlet bitcoin Shop of $150,000 dollars at a $9 million dollar pre-money valuation. This investment and resulting integration will offer bitcoin Shop customers more ways to obtain a wider variety of digital currencies, including bitcoin, litecoin, dogecoin, blackcoin and darkcoin, as well as further Expresscoin’s goal to bring these digital currencies to the world’s underbanked.
UK-based cryptocurrency exchange MintPal suffered a hacking attack on Sunday targeting their Vericoin accounts. No details are yet known about the nature of the attack or how many coins were stolen. However, the company has released a statement reassuring customers that they are working diligently “to hard fork the coin at a position before the attack.. to retrieve the stolen coins and facilitate all withdrawals”, and that all other coins’ withdrawals are still being processed.
Chinese bitcoin ATM maker BitOcean and American exchange Atlas ATS are submitting a joint bid to acquire the assets of defunct Tokyo-based exchange Mt. Gox, as part of their new joint venture trading platform BitOcean Japan, which they hope to launch this August. BitOcean Japan’s plan would allocate 49% of the new venture’s equity to Mt. Gox creditors, in order to help them eventually recover their lost assets. The BitOcean Japan offer currently faces one competing bid from Sunlot Holdings and its Save Gox initiative.
US Congressional candidate Dan Elder has become the first US politician to announce plans to fund his entire election campaign solely on bitcoin donations. Elder’s campaign launched on Friday, and is only accepting donations in the digital currency to quote “take a stance against the Federal Reserve and its policies which have weakened the US dollar.”
Three bitcoin enthusiasts are working on bitcoin’s first comic book concept called “bitcoin: The Hunt for Satoshi Nakamoto”, which was previewed at this past weekend’s CoinSummit event in London. The comic’s plot will revolve around the mysterious identity of the famed bitcoin creator, and will also hopefully help raise awareness and interest in the digital currency. The creators are aiming to release the Spanish version in October this year, but no plans have yet been announced for the English version.
